Okay folks,
We're moving forward with conducting a survey on the California recall effort and — thus far — will include the following topics:
Governor Gavin Newsom's approval rating
Voting preference on whether to recall Governor Gavin Newsom: Yes/No
California voters' views on Republican alternatives currently named as potential candidates, and viability of those candidates.
Let's hear those suggestions on what else to include on the questionnaire!
UPDATE: As we add more questions, I'll edit the post here.
Additions: Social desirability bias testing; right track/wrong track; whether voters are either considering leaving California or would if they could; education re: Covid and unions.
The percentage of registered voters who identify as Republican has fallen from ≈40% in November 2024 to ≈29% now as July comes to an end.
And no, it isn't a response bias.
In July 2024, Republicans held an identification edge over Democrats, 37.4% to 34.1%.
Why are Republicans losing identification?

This was a GREAT conversation.
We're going to do a press release on it tomorrow. But interestingly, the Registered Voter Economic Confidence Index actually improved marginally by 2 pts for the quarter.
However, it's noteworthy it all came from improvements in the indicators for the 6-month outlook. The Present Situation Index effectively canceled each other out.

Watching people attempt to "unskew" polls conducted by all walks of this industry—ranging from Nate Cohn at The New York Times to Spencer Kimball at Emerson College to Tim Malloy at Quinnipiac—all to deny Donald Trump's gains against Joe Biden with various voting blocs, is more than a little sad.
The slew of recent polls over two weeks—to include no less than four today alone—have simply confirmed prior findings published from other pollsters who have previously been "unskewed". That includes your's truly and our work at BIG DATA POLL, Mark Penn at Harvard University, Patrick Ruffini at Echelon Insights, and many others.
I'm temped to equate this with an Occam's razor-like situation. But this debate is more about likelihood than simplicity.
Here's the Presidential Vote Preference Trend for Biden v. Trump going back to August 2020. The Public Polling Project did not begin asking the Rematch Question for 2024 until September 2021. However, we can still make some pretty important and interesting observations.
