The 2026 midterms have frequently been compared to the 2006 midterm cycle. That year, Democrats flipped 5 seats under their banner, but effectively netted 7 including Independents who caucused with them.
We tend to like to try to apply uniform swings to each state and race as to make our understanding or outcome expectations fit neatly into boxes. But that's not how it works.
So, a few things worth noting about the 2006 cycle.
Firstly, the fundamental presidential job approval rating. On November 6, 2006, President George W. Bush's approval rating was 38.9%/56.9%. President Donald Trump as of October 18, 2026 stands at 38.9%/59.4%.
In 2006, President Bush's numbers deteriorated measurably over these final weeks, as he did start October in the low 40s.
Secondly, the Generic Ballot doesn't ALWAYS translate into identical margin at the Senate level, which is why we also ask a Generic Senate Ballot. In 2006, Democrats outran their 7.9% National House Popular Vote (52.0% to 44.1%) performance in contests for U.S. Senate by roughly 4 points, winning all senatorial contests nationwide 53.89% to 42.37%.
Lastly, the swing across these states. We've heard a lot about how the national mood may impact deeper red areas than swing or purple competitive states and districts. In 2006, these swings were NOT uniform. Incumbency and individual state race factors mattered.
However, as @RobertBarnes and I have now REPEATEDLY argued AND demonstrated, incumbency does NOT appear to be worth what it once was. That's not to say it means NOTHING, but it has NOT blunted the national mood in observed races in Trump Era cycles to the extend it did in 2006.

So...
This video was hours ago and internet wasn't enough apparently. But that's okay because I have to provide an update.
I am currently at Andrews AB. Might as well stay in DC area for the night. Have out. Get a rental in the am and head home.
I will be backed up but @RobertBarnes and I are doing a Friday Poll Special.
We will have a lot of drops.
Nate Silver thinks he’s smarter than everybody. He goes in and says this poll is credible, these right-wing pollsters are fake and these left-wing pollsters are great.
He weighted Wedgewood, a FAKE firm, higher than the New York Times, higher than Quantus, higher than Mark Mitchell! This is why his model gets humiliated year after year.
We need a complete overhaul of this industry.

I am going to do a stream today. I had pre-taped and phone interviews all day outside of what wasn't live.
There will be a lot of cool stuff coming out. I will ofc post them here.
But I will do a recap of all this and where I think we are later today. I am just going to the gym to decompress a bit and get the boys something to eat.
I had AI create show thumbnails to illustrate county-level shifts by median age and Hispanics. H/T Elliot Morris for the site tool.
What an EPIC ass-kicking.
That is what a "Betrayal Environment" looks like, a term @RobertBarnes and I coined to warn of impending disaster.
Hey guys,
I'm going to pin this here. I've gotten a lot of questions about 1) the hardcover not on other distributors and 2) audiobook.
1) Yes, the hardcover as of now is only available on Amazon.
2. The audiobook has been submitted. It's out of our hands and up to Audible now. It'll just pop up on Amazon when it is available and if I see it first, I'll let you know.
Also, do not forget to leave a review if you liked it. As you can see, there are certain "MAGA" mad at me and just attacking me personally in reviews.

Watching people attempt to "unskew" polls conducted by all walks of this industry—ranging from Nate Cohn at The New York Times to Spencer Kimball at Emerson College to Tim Malloy at Quinnipiac—all to deny Donald Trump's gains against Joe Biden with various voting blocs, is more than a little sad.
The slew of recent polls over two weeks—to include no less than four today alone—have simply confirmed prior findings published from other pollsters who have previously been "unskewed". That includes your's truly and our work at BIG DATA POLL, Mark Penn at Harvard University, Patrick Ruffini at Echelon Insights, and many others.
I'm temped to equate this with an Occam's razor-like situation. But this debate is more about likelihood than simplicity.
Here's the Presidential Vote Preference Trend for Biden v. Trump going back to August 2020. The Public Polling Project did not begin asking the Rematch Question for 2024 until September 2021. However, we can still make some pretty important and interesting observations.
